. . . were very young girls when their mother died May 12, 1925. Mary was not yet four years old and her baby sister was a toddler of 18 months. Buck Harvey's little girls suddenly were without the nurturing mother they needed. Buck knew he could not work the long hours necessary to make a living and at the same time give his children the kind of home life they needed.
The young father's dilemma was resolved the following year when he discovered a beautiful young woman who lived on Washington Street in South Marion. Soon after, he persuaded her to become his bride.
Luella Catherine Bragg, 18, married Buck Harvey, 28, in November of 1926 and took charge of the little girls' care and upbringing. Luella became the only mother Mary and Phyllis ever really knew.
